...at layers and masks to get a kind of HDR look.....I haven't done this before.
All input gratefully received - positive or negative! I think I like the result but this was done very quickly - here is the original photo for anyone who may be interested - [link] Comments
I thought it was a painting when I saw the thumb. You done good, Karen. Mine would be screaming 'Look at me, I've been Photoshopped.' Yours is a perfect job.

Critiques
Since you asked for input, I have a few ideas.
The one actual "correction" I would make is the left to right exposure. I know in Lightroom you can use the Graduated ND filter, and get the exposure and contrast to match across the frame.
If this were my own work, I would boost the contrast. I would use maybe a +10 contrast (and brightness to keep the level of light), +15 to clarity (to add some detail to the bridge, grass in the foreground, and trees along the left side.), and maybe even increase the blacks a touch to maybe 5 or 10 max.
I think this would also make for a really amazing high contrast B&W, maybe even with red filter... I would have a lot of fun with my NIK Silver Efex plug-in for photoshop
